Site Marketing

A well-conceived marketing campaign is critical to the success of your site. Here are some ideas:

Register with Search Engines and Directories
Search engines and directories are the "yellow pages" of the Internet. Simply go to the sites for each search engine or directory and follow the individual directions to add a listing. Typically, your listing won't appear immediately; in fact, it can take several weeks. While this process can be time-consuming, it is inexpensive.

Issue a Press Release
Locate publications that cover your target market and coordinate a press release to appear with the launch of your site. Make sure the press release has newsworthy content and is properly formatted. Take the time to send the release in the publication's preferred format (e-mail, newswire, fax or mail).

Participate in Newsgroups
A newsgroup is an electronic bulletin board where people communicate about a shared interest or topic. If your site is posted properly to a newsgroup, you can generate tremendous word-of-mouth. Newsgroup users don't appreciate overt advertising, so when you post, provide useful advice, questions or information. If possible, become an active newsgroup participant.

Exchange Links with Other Sites
Locate sites that have a reason to point to you, then ask for the link. Seek out partners for trading links including vendors, suppliers and providers of complimentary products.

Purchase Banner Ads on Other Sites
Banner Ads can be colorful, attractive and a valuable way to stand out from your competition. The pricing models vary greatly.

Run On-Site Events
Running events on your site is an excellent way to encourage repeat traffic. Contests, games, online interviews, chat sessions, audio broadcasts and interactive site components are excellent examples.

Issue an e-Newsletter
Ask site visitors to sign up for a newsletter, then distribute it on a scheduled basis via e-mail. Keep visitors up-to-date on site changes, new offerings and valuable information related to products.

Integrate with Traditional Marketing
Include your web site address on all flyers, letterhead, brochures and other collateral materials. Provide constant incentives for customers to visit the site, such as a discount for ordering parts online or faster customer service through the site.
